Walking Football Impairment Criteria

Wax Eye Sports and Performing Arts Trust Inc are looking to enhance the lives of impaired athletes. Athletes’ wellbeing, social interaction into New Zealand society is as important as mainstream athletes. The society is offering 5 -a-side walking football hopefully with a weekly competition or staging weekend tournaments for the following group of athletes or other impaired groups.

Learning Disability Football

• Learning disability football is a format of football exclusively for people with a learning disability (LD).
• The person must have an IQ of 75 or below
• The person must have limited ‘adaptive behaviour’ which means they might need help with everyday tasks, for example cooking or travelling by public transport

Down’s Syndrome Football

• Down’s syndrome represents an increased risk of neck instability so players with Down’s syndrome shouldn’t head the ball. Typically, athletes who either ‘Down syndrome Trisomy 21’ or ‘Down Syndrome Mosaic’ are open to play

Little People Football

• Little People Football is for athletes of short stature

Amputee Football

• An amputee is defined as one who is “abbreviated” at or above (proximal) to the wrist or ankle. Outfielders may have two hands but only one foot. Goalies may have two legs, but only one hand.

Mental Health Football

• Is organised for players who have experienced mental health conditions and want to play within an adapted format of football.
